Polo Ralph Lauren Multicolor Print Shorts Review: Thin Polyester, S–5XL Fit Check

What arrived for $6.27

The listing (SKU 7720521196) is a batch of straight-leg, drawstring-waist shorts under the Polo Ralph Lauren name, priced at $6.27 against a $6.74 reference price and marked in stock. Nine images accompany the item, covering the multicolor range the listing names: blue, orange, red, yellow, navy, white and black. Our testing team ordered one colorway, logged it from payment to parcel arrival, and wore it across seven days of warm-weather use before scoring.

The short itself is what the seller says it is on paper: a thin, non-stretch polyester with an allover printed motif, a straight leg opening and no liner. Nothing in the parcel pointed to a different construction, and nothing arrived damaged. The gap between expectation and reality here sits almost entirely in the two words "thin polyester".

The fabric is the whole decision

Flat and in hand, the shell reads as a light synthetic with a faint mechanical sheen rather than a matte cotton hand. It drapes rather than holds shape, so the leg falls straight and slightly loose rather than standing away from the thigh. Two consequences are worth naming up front:

  • No give. The catalog states zero stretch. A drawstring waist compensates at the band, but the seat and thigh do not, so a hard sit-down gets tight if you size at the low end of your range.
  • Nothing to hide behind. Thin fabric under bright light shows the outline of a phone or keys in a front pocket. Fine at the beach, less ideal for a full day in town.

For summer and beach use — the exact scenario the listing claims — that trade-off is defensible. You are buying air movement and quick drying, not structure.

Print, hem and hardware

The pattern is applied as an allover print, and the listing specifies a 3D print process rather than a sewn patch or appliqué. On our sample the print sits in the weave with no raised or tacky surface, and it runs continuously across the side seam rather than breaking awkwardly at the join. Registration between adjacent color blocks was clean on the panels we could compare side by side; we could not verify the other six colorways, and print placement can drift between batches.

The hem is a plain straight cut, not a split or a curved dolphin hem. Stitching along the waistband, hem and side seams was straight and even, with no skipped runs, loose thread tails or puckering at the crotch seam. The drawstring is a flat cord with knotted ends; it held its knot through wear and washing without fraying. There is no visible zipper, and no belt loops are described in the listing.

Wash notes

The shorts went through three machine washes on cold with a low-heat tumble, which is the realistic regime for this fabric. Color did not bleed onto a white test cloth, seams stayed flat, and the print did not crack or lift at the leg crease. What did show up is the usual polyester signature: light static and a slightly slicker hand after drying. Hot water or a hot dryer would be the obvious way to damage a print like this, so keep both off the table.

Sizing: read the tolerance, then ask

The run is S, M, L, XL, XXL, 3XL, 4XL and 5XL, with a stated 1–2 cm measurement tolerance. Our sample's drawn-waistband and inseam figures landed inside that band, which is reassuring for a listing at this price, but 2 cm of slack is roughly a full waist increment on a small size — enough to move you between two sizes.

Ralph Lauren as a brand does not use one fit profile, which compounds the problem. Buyer-shared guidance describes Classic-Fit as the US standard and roughly one size larger than typical domestic sizing, Custom-Fit as closer to Asian body sizing, and Slim-Fit as a third, tighter cut. The listing for this short does not name a profile. Before ordering, ask the seller which profile applies and request flat waist, hip, inseam and leg-opening figures for your chosen size.

Brand-level evidence, and how far it applies

There is no independent buyer feedback on this specific listing, so nothing here can be cross-checked against other owners. The nearest available signal is brand-level and only partly transferable. Reviews of the Ralph Lauren online store on Trustpilot sit at 1.6 out of 5 across 131 reviews, with recurring complaints about cheap fabrics, incorrect sizing and items arriving damaged.

Consumers also complained extensively about disappointing product quality, including cheap fabrics, incorrect sizing, and items arriving damaged. — Trustpilot, ralphlauren.com reviews (1.6/5, 131 reviews)

That is store service and retail quality data, not data about this short, and it should be read that way — as a reason to set expectations carefully rather than as a verdict on the item. On the other side, a buyer write-up of Ralph Lauren replica pieces in the r/FashionReps community described the material as very close to the genuine article with convincing logo and collar detailing. That review covers polo shirts, not shorts, so treat it as directional only. Both signals, taken at the confidence they deserve, point the same way: judge this purchase on the fabric and the fit numbers, not on the name.

How the money works out

At $6.27 the shorts sit firmly in add-on territory for an agent haul. The realistic cost picture is item price plus agent service fees plus international shipping, and shorts are bulky relative to their weight, so shipping can approach or exceed the sticker price on a single pair. Bundling with other items in the same parcel is where this price actually makes sense. Confirm the final landed cost on your agent's site before checkout, since the $6.27 figure is the listing price only.

Cómo lo probamos
Priya Nair ordered one colorway and measured the shorts flat against the listing's size chart, then wore them for seven days with three cold washes and a low tumble. Checks covered seam stitching, print registration across the side seam, drawstring knot retention, and whether the stated 1–2 cm tolerance held on our sample.
Does the 1–2 cm tolerance really change which size I should pick?
It can. Two centimetres is close to a full waist increment on the smaller sizes, so ask the seller for flat waist, hip and inseam figures and pick the size nearest your measurement rather than splitting the difference.
Did the print survive washing?
Yes, across three cold machine washes and a low-heat tumble the print did not crack or lift. Keep hot water and a hot dryer out of the routine, since heat is the main risk to a printed polyester surface.
Is $6.27 the price I actually pay?
No. That is the listing price against a $6.74 reference. Your total adds agent service fees and international shipping, and shorts are bulky, so confirm the landed cost on your agent's site before checkout.

Picked these up for a week at the beach and honestly for $6.27 I can't complain much. The print is loud in a good way and the colors held up fine after a few washes. Only thing is the polyester is really thin, like you can see light through them if you hold them up. I'm usually a 32 waist and went with M, fit was fine but if you're between sizes I'd size up.
